Olympic Training Camp – December 28th & 29th 2023

 

This year the Association have decided that the Olympic Training weekend day will take place on December 28th and 29th, 2023 at Dover Leisure Centre.  Each day, swimmers will have two land training sessions and two pool training sessions. There will be a charge of £45 for each swimmer. 

 

The camp will be run by David Hemmings, who is National Centre Coach at the British Swimming Performance Centre in Loughborough and has coached swimmers to world and European titles in recent years, including Abbie Wood, Molly Renshaw and James Wilby. He was a member of British Swimming's poolside team at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, The Swim England coaching team at the Birmingham Commonwealth games and will be at the Paris Olympics. 

 

David will be supported by Joe Litchfield winner of three golds and one silver at the 2021  European Championships. In 2022 Joe  was a member of the bronze medal winning 4 x 200m freestyle at the World Championships in Budapest. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games he won silver medals in both the 4x100m and 4x200m Freestyle Relays.  At the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Joe was a member of the gold medal winning 4 x 200m freestyle team.

 

Dan Waddingham will be leading the land work. He is head of Strength and Conditioning at Millfield School, he was S&C coach for Swim England at the Commonwealth games and has been appointed by British Swimming to lead their High Altitude swimming camp, for the Olympic Squad, in the USA in January

 

 

Daniel has an MSc in strength and conditioning from St Mary’s University College, and held strength and conditioning roles in various presitgious institutions around the UK before becoming Millfield’s Atheltic Development Lead in 2017.

Joe Litchfield will be supporting David in the pool. 

 

In 2016 he won the Junior European 200m IM. In 2020 at the European Championships in Budapest he won golds in 4x100m and 4x200m mixed relays. 

At the 2023 World  Championships in Japan, he won a gold medal in the Men's 4x 200 metre freestyle relay.

  • If the payment column is blank it means I have not received confirmation that payment has been made.
  • If the swimmers name is highlighted in rose it means I do not have a consent form

Please make sure your swimmers know which lane they are allocated for the swim saessions. There are two groups - Group A for the younger swimmers and group B for the older ones.

 

Finally, a few things to note:

 

  1. Team Managers are Gem MacLachlan from Herne Bay and Clive van Delden from Dover.
  2. Sign in on arrival each day – Sheets will be by club in alphabetical order.
  3. Please make sure your children know which group they are in and which lane. This is attached and will be on the website.
  4. There are a number of swimmers with severe nut allergies – to minimise the risk of medical incidents please do not send nuts in your children’s packed lunches.
  5. Please ask your children not to bring their mobile phones we cannot take responsibility for them.
  6. If your swimmer has an injury but still wants to come this is fine – but please tell the Team Managers so we can ensure we don’t ask them to do something that will aggravate the injury.
