Dear Masters Secretary,

I would like to wish you a belated happy New Year and I trust that 2019 will be a successful one for your swimming club.

The EIASA Masters Championships have been arranged for this year at the Kings School Pool in Canterbury for Saturday 13th April 2019. Details are attached & I would be grateful if you would kindly copy these forms as necessary and pass on to your Masters Swimmers. There is also an electronic entry method – details of which will be sent to you in a few days time. This electronic entry, for the larger clubs especially, really helps me in arranging the entries. If using this method then it must also be returned to me with the entry fees by the closing date for entries which is Saturday 23rd March 2019.

Please note the start time. We have been trying out an earlier start over the last few years and this seemed to be appreciated by most of the competitors. This should avoid a late finish and subsequent delay to the social event afterwards in the bar & restaurant upstairs.

It would be essential for each club to bring 2 people who can act as officials at the Championships. This would be mainly to assist with the timekeeping as otherwise we may have to rely on swimmers helping out in between their events. However, this year we are again likely to also be short of officials - judges in particular. We would thus request clubs to bring along at least one official who can act as a judge. Judges should be qualified to at least J1 standard but we realise that this can’t always happen at galas and we would be willing to accept some unqualified judges who have experience and are up to date with the technical swimming rules. Please let me know as soon as possible if your club would have difficulty in complying with this request.

All events will be pre-heated and programmes giving details of the heats will be available at the beginning of the Championships. We hope to send a confirmation list of all your swimmers & their respective events will to you (as your Club Masters Secretary) approximately 8 days before the championships so that you can confirm with your swimmers the events that they have entered. I trust that there will be no late withdrawals but please let me know as soon as possible after this if any of your swimmers are unable to compete in the events they have entered. We will ask swimmers to check in before 1615 on arrival at the Kings Centre and clearly confirm the events that they are entering.

The details of any relay teams that you may have entered should be clearly written out with the names & ages of the team members and handed in at the beginning of the Championship event.

I look forward to seeing you & your team on 13th April & I trust that you enjoy your swimming in 2019.

Yours sincerely,

David.

PS.  As happened last year Kent Clubs should be aware of the revised format of the Kent Masters Championships which have now been split into two parts as follows:-

  • Distance Events (including 800m & 1500m) to be held at Erith on 19th May 2019 in conjunction with the Erith Masters Gala.

  • Sprint Events (the format as in previous years) as ‘normal’ at Gillingham on 30th June 2019.

Deal Tri Masters Development Gala at Dover on 9th February 2019. Contact Ian Pettit for details at ipettit@sky.com

If your club has not yet been informed of the details of the Kent County galas – please contact me. (david.g.staveley@gmail.com)
